Program Description

Undoubtedly one of the most heralded destinations in Italy, the city of Florence has beckoned visitors throughout the ages. Its historic significance dates back to its origins as a Roman city, yet it was during the 14th and 15th centuries when Florence obtained unparalleled notoriety. Considered one of the most politically, economically and culturally significant cities of the time, Florenceā€™s mystique has persisted to today.

Through this beginning Italian language and culture course, you can live and learn in the birthplace of the Renaissance. The epicenter for political thought, art and culture throughout the Middle Ages, Florence was home to some of the most recognizable thinkers and artists of the day including Machiavelli, Michelangelo and da Vinci. Wonder aimlessly through the narrow streets and broad piazzas of this glorious city. Explore leather markets under the back drop of the Duomo. Taste the local Tuscan foods and visit legendary museums and galleries such as the Uffizi and the Accademia. Enjoy a cappuccino while practicing your Italian with the locals and gain a new appreciation for life that only cultural immersion can reveal.

The program and coursework is administered by Lynn-approved provider the Florence University of the Arts. All students are enrolled in a three-credit language and culture course (DJLC 200: Italian Language and Culture in Florence, Italy). This course meets the J-term requirement for Language and Culture.
