Frequently Asked Questions

Allow us to help you with your questions about studying abroad.  Although this can be a complex process, the CLA staff is available to walk you through the steps that will make for an outstanding experience.

Who can study abroad for a semester or year?

All college students are encouraged to study abroad!  No matter what your academic major, or your career goals, study abroad is relevant to all students.

The minimum eligibility requirements are:

(a) Be in good standing (academic, disciplinary, financial)

(b) Successfully complete at least one semester of college-level coursework (or a minimum of 15 semester credit hours) before participating in a program. Students wishing to study abroad during the spring semester of their freshmen year must also complete a DJCP 100 course to be eligible. Additionally, all students applying to study abroad for a semester must meet the eligibility requirements of the host institution.

What is the minimum GPA in order to study abroad for the semester?

All Lynn short-term programs have a minimum GPA requirement of 2.3. For semester programs GPA requirements can differentiate depending on the program selected. The minimum GPA for one program in Australia may be 2.5 and another program in Australia may have the minimum GPA as a 3.0. Individual program requirements can be found when you click on the program link.

Will my classes transfer back to Lynn?

Before you apply to any off-campus program you must speak with your Academic Advisor. Students participating on semester or year-long programs will be required to complete the Course Pre-Approval Form with their Academic Advisor. This form will show the Lynn equivalent of the courses taken abroad.

If I study abroad will I still graduate on time?

You should. The CLA staff and your Academic Advisor will work hard to make sure that taking part in any of the off-campus programs will not delay your graduation. With reasonable planning, any Lynn University student can have a great international experience and still graduate on time.

When should I study abroad?

Students must successfully complete at least one semester of college-level coursework or a minimum of 15 semester credit hours before participating in an off-campus program.  Students wishing to study abroad during the spring semester of their freshmen year must also complete a DJCP 100 course to be eligible. Additionally, all students applying to study abroad for a semester must meet the eligibility requirements of the host institution.

Can I study abroad in a country where English is not the official language?

Yes! Almost all of the approved programs selected by the CLA have English-based curriculum. Depending on the program students may be required to take at least one native language course.

What is the cost of semester programs?

Students will pay Lynn University tuition, and in most cases, Lynn University room and board. Payments will be made to Student Financial Services (SFS) as if you were on Lynn’s campus.
