Faculty Development Opportunities

Many of the organizations that have partnered with Lynn University to provide study abroad programs for students also offer a variety of international development opportunities for faculty. Periodically, the Center for Learning Abroad (CLA) and the Office for Academic Affairs provide funding for faculty to participate in development seminars, workshops or fellowships. Eligibility for financial assistance varies depending on academic discipline, the term and relevance to Lynn's international goals, among other factors. The following are available faculty development opportunities currently being offered through the CLA.

Summer 2018

CIEE: Council on International Educational Exchange
CIEE International Faculty Development Seminars (IFDS) provide faculty and administrators with access to rich academics, diverse intercultural experiences, and innovative approaches to learning and problem-solving that enhance syllabi, internationalize curricula, and increase global understanding on campus. Each summer, the CLA and the Office for Academic Affairs provide funding for Lynn faculty to participate on faculty development opportunities including seminars with CIEE. Funding for round-trip airfare is also provided. Applications for the seminars are competitive.

Interested faculty should view the available seminars on the CIEE website (see below) and submit a completed Lynn University IFDS Grant Application to the CLA (cla@lynn.edu) by the posted deadline. Applications will be reviewed and grant recipients selected by the CLA and Academic Affairs.
Application deadline: February 16, 2018

UPEACE Centre for Executive Education
Located in Costa Rica, within the United Nations-mandated University for Peace (UPEACE), the UPEACE Centre for Executive Education delivers dynamic courses to leaders from around the world. Specifically designed for educators, the 5-day workshop, "Global Education: Cultivating innovation in the classroom," covers topic areas such as education in a changing world, design thinking, global citizenship and storytelling. Each summer, the CLA and the Office for Academic Affairs provide funding for Lynn faculty to participate on faculty development opportunities including the Global Education workshop at UPEACE in Costa Rica. Funding for round-trip airfare is also provided. Applications for the workshop are competitive.

Interested faculty should review the workshop details (see below) and submit a completed Lynn University UPEACE Global Education Grant Application to the CLA (cla@lynn.edu) by the posted deadline. Applications will be reviewed and grant recipients selected by the CLA and Academic Affairs.

Visiting Faculty (semester/summer)

CIEE: Council on International Educational Exchange
CIEE offers qualified faculty the opportunity to be a guest instructor at one of their four Global Institutes in Europe. Share your expertise and strong record of teaching success while creating an environment where U.S. students interact and collaborate with faculty in the classroom and through public events, lectures, and off-site activities. Positions are available for a full semester or during the summer.

Interested faculty should review the guest instructor details and complete the required application online.  Pay special attention to application deadlines as the planning cycle and possible visa implications require interested faculty to apply at least nine months before the start of the term in which they would teach.
Application deadlines: Vary by term

Other faculty development opportunities

The following are additional development seminars, workshops and fellowships being offered by Lynn University's study abroad partners. Although funding through the CLA is not currently available, faculty are encouraged to consider these development opportunities and apply for any available grants offered by the providers.

DIS Study Abroad in Scandinavia
DIS welcomes education abroad professionals, faculty, administrators, academic advisors, and student affairs staff to an International Educators Workshop (IEW) at our DIS Copenhagen or new DIS Stockholm location each semester.
